Over the years, as an English Teacher, I’ve worked with an incredible variety of students, from 2nd generation immigrants to those newly arrived as well as many who’ve been in the US most or all of their lives.

I focus on offering an online course that centers around the student, measures growth and performance from the student’s actual speaking and writing, and supports successful integration into native-English speaking environments.

Online English Classes consist of:
- Two (2-hour) classes per week (Live, Online). The course is a balance of Google Documents coursework and language learning supports that will help students to comprehend the training course. Students learn features like menu options and functions, how to work with multiple editors, editing options, sharing files with collaborators, inserting images, tables, adding hyperlinks into a document, making comments and having conversations in the margins about the text. Special attention is placed on supporting the students' listening comprehension with all video material available for the student to pause/replay at will, listen to multiple times, subtitles, and computer lesson transcripts that we study together (whole class). We’ll practice inside of the Google Docs environment through additional class assignments that further develop students speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- (+) 1 Event/Activity each week (native-speaking environment). Students are required to attend an event or participate in an activity - online or in person - that places them in a native speaking environment at least once a week (Students can offer an event or the instructor can provide several options).
- 1:5 Teacher/Student Ratio: 1 Teacher or Teacher’s Assistant for every 5 students.
- Bi-weekly Student/Teacher Conferences. Teachers conference with a small cohort of students (one by one) to explain and discuss Teacher feedback on student work to ensure students understand the Teacher’s comments on their classwork. Students are required to respond to Teacher feedback in writing in order to become aware of their mistakes and learn from those mistakes.
- Student Learning Tracker. Based on the student/teacher conferences, teacher feedback on student work, workshopping, and student journals a learning profile is customized for each student, identifying areas where the student demonstrates proficiency, where they are struggling - and areas where they need more work to stabilize their learning.

I’m a IT professional in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I began working with ESLSpeaknow in order to increase my speaking fluency since I could already hold conversations with native speakers, but I wanted to increase my fluency, improve my phrasing, and stretch my ability to discuss more advanced topics, and a larger range of topics.
I was able to work specifically in these areas in this program through being required to engage in full back and forth discussions on complex issues, speaking presentations that required research and required me to explain statistical data and engage in extended peer to peer discussions.
